The last time the world cup was played in India, it ended in spectacular style with “Dhoni finishing it off with a six”. It doesn’t really feel like it was 12 years ago. But only 2 players from the world cup winning squad are even in contention for this edition’s world cup squad, namely Virat Kohli and R Ashwin with even Rohit Sharma having missed the mark in 2011. 

The International Cricket Council has released a promo for the event with a monologue from Shahrukh Khan on the theme “one day”. A montage of memorable world cup moment such as Dhoni’s unfortunate run out in the 2019 world cup semi final, South Africa’s emotional exit from the 2015 world cup semi final, Dwayne Leverock’s brilliant one handed dive to get rid of Robin Uthappa in the 2007 world cup, Ben Stokes’ reverse one handed dive, Carlos Barathwaite not able to get the ball past Trent Boult when six were required with 1 wicket in hand in the 2019 world cup, Kapil Dev giving India its first moment of glory in 1983, Jhonthy Rhodes’ unforgettable run out against Pakistan in the 1992 world cup and of course Dhoni finishing it of in style. 

One line from the promo that would definitely resonate with every fan is “The difference between making history and being history, one day”.
