In a recent raid conducted by the Anjuna police in Goa, two women hailing from Israel and Kenya, Maria Dorcas and Wilkista Achista respectively, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in an international sex trafficking network.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi revealed that this illicit operation spanned between Kenya and India.
According to Mr. Dalvi, five women were rescued during the police action, thanks to the assistance of the NGO ARZ.
These women from Kenya had initially been lured with promises of employment in the hospitality sector in India by agents acting on behalf of human traffickers.
Upon arriving in India, their passports and visas were confiscated by these agents, forcing them into prostitution under the threat of violence. The racket utilized online escort service websites to solicit clients.
The sex trafficking activities came to light when the NGO ARZ discovered victims who had been transported to Bengaluru. Promptly acting on this information, the Goa police carried out a raid, resulting in the rescue of these women. Subsequently, the rescued victims have been placed in a protective shelter in Merces, Goa.
