Bengaluru Bandh to be held on September 11
Private transporters want financial aid of Rs 10k pm
BMTC to run extra buses to help passengers
Ever since the Siddaramaiah government stormed back to power in Karnataka, on the freebie promises including free bus rides for women on government-run buses, it is the private players who have been allegedly facing the brunt of the freebie.
While women continue to enjoy rides on the government-run buses, the private bus owners claim that they have been running their buses empty. Add to it, auto drivers too, who have been complaining that they are not getting enough passengers.
In this regard, they had even met Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy who had promised to address their issues. However, the promise remains a hogwash, with the government not ready to answer their demands that include a financial aid of Rs 10,000.
Now, as a mark of protest, these bus drivers and auto drivers will hold a Bengaluru Bandh on September 11 (midnight to midnight). They have urged all private players to extend unconditional support so that it becomes a grand success by exerting enough pressure on the government to meet their demands.
As the bandh is all set to be held, the government has the BMTC to run extra buses to ensure passengers are not inconvenienced. The transport minister himself held talks with the officials to ensure a hassle-free day for customers.
